Mining News Pro - In the heart of the US southern Appalachian region, large Caterpillar dealer Boyd Cat has cited the down economy plus continued troubled waters in the coal industry for a decision to close the equipment manufacturer’s Lyburn, Logan County, West Virginia location.
According to Mining News Pro - Boyd, which just changed its name in late February from its year-long identity of Walker Machinery, made its move effective March 31.
Officials told local news outlet the Logan Banner it was a "very difficult decision" and that the economy will have an impact on business for the foreseeable future.
Cat, which furloughed some and transferred others as a result of the closure, will reportedly offer its parts and services for existing customers through Cat locations in Beckley and Belle, West Virginia and Pikeville, Kentucky.
