Mining News Pro - Vedanta Resources - one of the major mining companies is to import iron ore lump. According to vessel line up data maintained by SteelMint, the import vessel carrying around 82,000 MT iron ore lumps from Australia is expected to arrive at Mormugao port (Goa) on 01 Nov’18. Since data maintained with SteelMint, since FY15 this is the first time Vedanta reported the imports of iron ore from any country.

According to vessel line up data maintained by SteelMint, the import vessel carrying around 82,000 MT iron ore lumps from Australia is expected to arrive at Mormugao port (Goa) on 01 Nov’18. Since data maintained with SteelMint, since FY15 this is the first time Vedanta reported the imports of iron ore from any country.
This is supposed to be utilized at its Pig Iron plant situated in Goa. The company reported about 173,000 MT pig iron production in Q2 FY19 as against previous quarter at 167,000 MT (Q1 FY19) and same preceding last year 137,000 MT (Q2 FY18). Hence, the Q2 FY19 production moved up by 4% Q-o-Q & 26% Y-o-Y.
Iron ore production from Goa remained nil amid mining ban -: In Q2 FY19, Vedanta’s saleable iron ore production from Goa mines stood nil against 0.4 MnT in Q2 FY18, Y-o-Y. In the previous quarter, it was 0.2 MnT. Production volumes come down sharply from Goa miners owing to cancellation of mining operations at 88 mining lease post 15th Mar`18 by the Supreme court Judgment on 7th Feb`18 until fresh environmental clearances granted.
Vedanta’s Iron ore production from Karnataka increased sharply in Q2FY’19-: In Q2FY19, Vedanta’s iron ore production from Karnataka increased significantly and stood at 1.4 MnT against 0.9 MnT in Q2FY’18. On quarterly basis, production from Karnataka increased by 19% against 1.2 MnT in Q1’FY`19.
