Mining News Pro - Gold miner Evolution Mining will play a key role in mining technology event Unearthed Sydney 2018.
According to Mining News Pro -The event, which takes place from October 12–13 at the Amazon Web Services office in Sydney, is an annual hackathon dedicated to solving mining industry challenges.
Evolution will set three operational challenges relating to three of its mines to participants, who range from students and entrepreneurs through to startups and mining equipment, technology and services (METS) companies.
These problem-solving challenges include how to model concealed gold at Evolution’s Mt Rawden mine in New South Wales (with help from software company MICROMINE); how to optimise truck payloads and cycle speeds at the Cowal mine (also NSW); and how to minimise how much waste mixes with ore at the Cracow mine in Queensland.
“We are actively looking for ground-breaking ideas from the group to transform the company’s ounce and cost profile, whilst having a myopic focus on value accretion,” said Evolution mining general manager, transformation and effectiveness, Mark Boon.
“Partnering with Unearthed in hackathon events is a part of that process, offering a greater potential of ideas to solve key business problems or develop workable solutions from beyond our direct employees.”
The winners of the event can take home up to $6000, Amazon Web Services credits and other prizes.
“At Unearthed, we are passionate about helping entrepreneurs, technologists and creatives around the world realise the trillion-dollar opportunity in the energy and resources sector,” said Unearthed industry lead – crowdsourcing, Holly Bridgwater.
“We look forward to meeting Sydney’s top talent at the hackathon.”
In early October, Unearthed also launched the first phase of its Accelerator Program in Queensland, designed to boost startup businesses by connecting them to mentors and customers.
