Mining News Pro - Lithium Australia has announced that the VSPC pilot plant operated by fully-owned subsidiary Lithium Australia NL will be recommissioned tomorrow.
According to Mining News Pro - Lithium Australia has announced that the VSPC pilot plant operated by fully-owned subsidiary Lithium Australia NL will be recommissioned tomorrow.
VSPC (Very Small Particle Company), a subsidiary of Lithium Australia, will use the plant for the production of battery-grade cathode powder.
Queensland Resources Council chief executive Ian Macfarlane will commission the reopening of the Wacol, Brisbane-based plant — Australia’s sole cathode pilot plant and batter-testing facility — at a ceremony that will be live-streamed through Lithium Australia’s website.
“We are extremely pleased with the acquisition of VSPC and proud to host guests for the official recommissioning of VSPC’s Brisbane cathode powder pilot plant,” said Lithium Australia managing director Adrian Griffin.
The company is also in the process of ramping up its large-scale pilot plant (LSPP), which will produce lithium carbonate for batteries via lithium mica feed sources obtained from the company’s Lepidolite Hill project in Western Australia.
Lithium Australia is using its patented SiLeach process at LSPP, which allows for the production of battery-grade lithium from non-brine mineral resources at a cost similar to brine producers, but without the associated environmental risks that come with roasting and evaporation ponds.
The company recently received approval from the Department of Mines and Petroleum for the removal of excess tonnage from three prospects at Lepidolite Hill for use at the LSPP.
