According to Mining News Pro - The underground metallurgical coal mine will take on six new apprentices next year, in the areas of electrical and mechanical trade.

Moranbah North also employs a wide range of professionals in areas such as engineering, safety, environment, finance, IT, geology and human resources, in addition to trade-based roles and coal mine workers.

The apprenticeship program will suit school leavers and mature aged candidates who could gain a trade qualification and build a career in the mining industry, according to Anglo American general manager of Moranbah North Paul Stephan.

“At Anglo American, we have a proud history of supporting skills development across the region and creating entry-level employment opportunities in the mining industry,” Stephan said.

“Moranbah North has an inclusive culture and a supportive environment that embraces innovation and technology. I encourage anyone interested in learning more about the program to come along to one of our information sessions and speak to some of our team members.”

The successful applicants will receive a four-year contract, including on-the-job training rotating through different operational areas of the mine.

Moranbah North is two hours west of Mackay, producing hard coking coal that’s used in steel production. It was awarded Australian Mine of the Year in 2018, 2017, 2015, 2013 and 2009.
