According to Mining News Pro - The development follows the company’s increased push toward securing supply chain materials that are driving the electric vehicle revolution.

Under the regulatory pathway stipulated by the Quebec government, Authier is subject to environmental impact assessment and review procedures, which entails further community engagement and environmental studies.

This process is expected to take approximately 13 to 18 months, including the completion of an environmental impact statement, which will lead to a ministerial recommendation and government decision.

The push towards production follows Sayona raising $11 million from institutional investors in April last year. The funds were also used to further develop exploration activities at Sayona’s Tansim property (near Authier) and Mallina lithium property in the Pilbara, Western Australia.

Sayona’s managing director Dan O’Neill said the Authier operation adds to the company’s growing portfolio of lithium projects, which include an already prominent presence in Australia.

“Sayona is confident of delivering a sustainable and profitable new mine at Authier, adding to our project pipeline including our nearby Tansim Lithium Project, as well as our holdings in the world‐class Pilgangoora lithium district of Western Australia,” he said.

“With a board and management team that has a track record of delivering successful mining projects around the world, Sayona has all the ingredients in place to drive increased shareholder value from mining the metal of the 21st century.”
