Rio Tinto extends accommodation contract with Fleetwood

According to Mining News Pro - Fleetwood Australia has received a one-year contract extension from Rio Tinto at Karratha in Western Australia.
Rio Tinto exercised its option to extend an agreement with Fleetwood at the 1500-capacity Searipple Village to the end of next year.


Fleetwood first entered into an agreement with Rio Tinto in 2012 when it was appointed the preferred third-party accommodation provider for all its fly-in fly-out (FIFO) personnel in Dampier and Karratha, excluding VIPs.


Fleetwood’s short-term housing for operational and construction workers Searipple Village was chosen to accommodate Rio’s workforce of more than 650 at the time.


The ASX-listed construction company then undertook $14 million worth of upgrades following the contract award, including refurbished catering and recreational facilities at Searipple.
Searipple Village pool. Image: Fleetwood Australia Rio runs a salt operation in the region, Dampier Salt, which is one of the world’s largest of seaborne salt with a production capacity of 2.9 million tonnes per year.


Dampier and Karratha are also neighbouring towns of the Pilbara, where Rio Tinto has expansive mining operations.
