According to Mining News Pro -Sweden - one of the major scrap exporters among EU-28 has witnessed a considerable fall of 28% M-o-M in its scrap exports in Jul’18. As per recent customs data, Sweden exported 69,926 MT ferrous scrap in Jul’18 as against 97,248 MT exports recorded in Jun’18.
According to customs data maintained with SteelMint, the country observed 42 months’ lowest monthly scrap exports in Jul’18. As earlier to this, scrap exports were recorded lowest at 55,097 MT in Jan’15.
On yearly basis, the country witnessed 20% Y-o-Y decline in ferrous scrap exports in Jul’18 as against 87,040 MT in Jul’17.
On the other hand, the country recorded iron ore exports at 2.23 MnT in Jul`18 witnessing a rise of 32% on monthly basis as against 1.69 MnT in Jun`18.
Turkey remained the largest scrap importer of Swedish scrap - Turkey imported highest 36,079 MT ferrous scrap occupying 52% share in total scrap exports from Sweden. Turkey observed marginal rise in scrap imports from Sweden with improved production activities in Jun-Jul`18. However, imports remained bounded on sharp currency depreciation.
USA remained silent again in July for Sweden scrap - USA continued to remain silent for Swedish scrap witnessing nil scrap imports since successively two months in June and July in CY18. Which pulled down USA to second largest scrap importers` position from Sweden.
Denmark witnessed 28% M-o-M rise in scrap imports from Sweden occupying 12% share in July. Followed by other prominent importers like Norway (5,295 MT, -62% M-o-M), Pakistan (3,543 MT, -68% M-o-M) and Germany (195 MT, -96% M-o-M) have witnessed considerable fall in scrap imports from Sweden in Jul’18.
According to World Steel Association, Sweden’s crude steel production inched up to 3.10 MnT on yearly basis during Jan-Aug`18 which was recorded at 3.03 MnT during Jan-Aug’17.
