Mining News Pro - Rio Tinto’s Gove Operations has been recognised as a world-class bauxite producer in the global aluminium industry at the 2018 Chief Minister’s Northern Territory Export and Industry Awards.
According to Mining News Pro -Rio Tinto’s Gove Operations has been recognised as a world-class bauxite producer in the global aluminium industry at the 2018 Chief Minister’s Northern Territory Export and Industry Awards.
Gove has recently increased production due to a shift of business focus to disciplined capital spend and low cost delivery.
The site, on the Gove Peninsula in the North East Arnhem land in the Northern Territory, was a winner in the Minerals, Energy and Related Services category.
In May this year, Rio Tinto became the primary customer and exporter of the first bauxite from the nearby Gulkula mine – Australia’s first 100 per cent Indigenous-owned bauxite mine, which is operated by the Gumatj Traditional Owners of the area.
Rio Tinto Aluminium Pacific Operations managing director Bruce Cox said, “In a competitive international market, it is terrific that Gove has been recognised as a market leader in bauxite export.
“The ability of the Gove team to continuously deliver productivity improvements has resulted in record levels of bauxite being exported to China.”
Gove has been supplying bauxite to the global aluminium industry for over 40 years.
The bauxite mine employs 500 employees and contractors, and contributes more than $200 million annually to the Northern Territory economy.
Rio Tinto Gove operations general manager Linda Murry said, “I’m so proud our team has been recognised for its dedication to supporting our recent transformation process designed to sustainably reduce costs and improve productivity across our bauxite export business.”
