As per custom data maintained by SteelMint stats, Finish long steel imports in India registered at 243,095 MT in H1CY18 against 213,591 MT in H1CY17
On monthly basis, Finish long steel imports shrunk by more than 20% and registered at 42,216 MT in Jun’18 against 52,819 MT in May’18.
Under Finish Long commodities following HS Codes has been considered - Bar & Rod (HS Code 7213 & 7214), MS Wire (HS Code 7217) along with Angle & Shapes (HS Code 7215 & 7216).
Surging Imports of Finish Long Steel could be attributing to suffice demand in domestic market and better consumption in overall regions due to infra projects.
Further, major unloading ports during H1 2018 was India`s west and south region are Mumbai and Chennai where the major volume has been registered at 73,824 MT & 58,193 MT respectively.
-- The major Imports of Finish Long steel in India till Jun’18 was recorded through China at 57,512 MT being followed by Thailand – 54,138 MT and South Korea at 30,018 MT.
-- Commodity wise Rebar being the major imported material during H1CY18 and registered with 110,672 MT followed by Wire Rod at 93,268 MT & Structures at 39,155 MT.
