In the month of June’18, the nation has imported around 119,959 MT billet against 157,835 MT in May’18. Prior to this, on M-o-M in May’18 it remains downside against 174,748 MT in Apr`18.
Japan was the major billet exporter to Thailand in Jun’18, which exported around 60,586 MT (50%), followed by Iran & South Korea whose exports stood at 51,220 MT & 4,228 MT , respectively.
On yearly basis, in Jun 2018 imports registered a rise of 50% against 80,026 MT in Jun 2017.
While the nation has imported about 1,115,764 MT Billet in Jan-Jun’18 against 1,077,448 MT in Jan-Jun’17, incline by 3.55% on yearly premises.
During this period (Jan-Jun’18), Iran has exported approximately 55% billet (608,419 MT) to the nation, followed by Japan (262,642 MT) & India (83,021 MT). Prior to this in the same preceding last year, Iran’s billet export to the nation was around 377,862 MT, surge almost 60% on yearly basis.
In CY17 (Jan-Dec) the country’s billet import was around 1,915,142 MT & in CY16 it stood at 4,582,594 MnT.
In the month of June 2018, the crude steel production of Thailand was around 390,000 MT and in CY18 (Jan-Jun) it was approximately 1,969,320 MT. Meanwhile, in CY17 the figure of crude steel production stood at 4,225,000 MT, & 3,879,246 MT in CY16.
Pig iron Imports increased
In the month of June 2018, Pig iron imports to the nation increased sharply & stood at 49,725 MT over high global scrap prices. Russia topped the list with 27,456 MT of pig iron exports to Thailand, which records the second highest volume in H1 CY18.
In CY18 (Jan-Jun) - Russia, India & Malaysia was the major pig iron exporter to Thailand which exported about 82,447 MT (59.26%), 29,480 MT (21.19%) & 19,448 MT (13.98%), respectively.
