According to Mining News Pro - Stornoway Diamond Corp. of Montreal has achieved full underground mine design capacity at its Renard mine. The property is located 350 km north of Chibougamau in the James Bay region.

In fact, mining was above budget. Over the 20-day period ending Aug. 29, ore mucked and trucked to surface averaged 6,039 t/d, compared to a design capacity of 6,000 t/d. The mine has 16 active drawpoints on four panels on the 290-metre level of the Renard 2 kimberlite. Underground ore supplemented material from the Renard 65 open pit, and ore processing averaged 7,095 t/d.

Renard is the province’s first – and so far only – diamond mine. Commercial production was declared on Jan. 1, 2017.
